Sumiyoshi Fishing Port offers sweeping views of Cape Tachimachi to the right (facing the ocean) and to the left the shoreline extending from Omori-hama Beach to Cape Shiokubi. The port and surrounding area has been used as a filming location of movies and TV dramas on numerous occasions for its unique scenery and lonely port town ambience that contrasts with the Motomachi District. The area is also a popular surf spot, and is known for the many surfers that frequent the area year-round because of its close proximity to downtown Hakodate.
